TownTweet is working with the popular social network Twitter to provide you with a special account specifically for your home town which you can follow to receive local news, community event information, emergency alerts, daily weather forecasts and more. You can even get these messages right on your mobile phone when you tell twitter to enable SMS for our town tweets. Every news or community event related town tweet is fully moderated by someone who lives in your town, ensuring our town tweets will be absolutely spam free.

We are currently in the process of acquiring all needed accounts for each and every local community in the United States, while ensuring we strictly adhere to all official twitter guidelines. As each community comes online you can use this website to locate and follow the applicable Twitter account for your local area.

Our service is designed to only Tweet the most important information to our followers. There will be a maximum of 3 Town Tweets per information category (news, weather, events, emergenices) on any given day unless emergency conditions warrant the requirement to send additional alerts. You can un-follow your local town Twitter account at any time to quit receiving the updates.

Right now we have fully functional support for 1175 communities across 50 States. There are about 50,000 towns across the United States, so the work of acquiring accounts and providing service for this large number of areas will not be fully completed until, most likely, the end of 2012. If your town is not yet activated, we do appreciate your patience. We are prioritizing areas based on population and interest (which is tracked when towns are searched for on our system).
